From Vision to Reality: UNIDO promotes green reconstruction standards for a resilient Ukraine

UNIDO has officially initiated the implementation of the National Guiding Framework for Standards and Technical Regulations for Green Reconstruction of Ukraine (NGF), marking a pivotal shift from planning to action. In January 2025, UNIDO trained 26 Ukrainian experts to become certified trainers on green reconstruction, focusing on several relevant areas, from green public procurement to sector-specific concentrations in energy, construction, and transport.

The NGF serves as a comprehensive tool to embed environmental considerations into Ukraine's recovery process, aiming to foster greener, more resilient infrastructure across key sectors. This critical step ensures that the NGF can effectively guide the country's reconstruction efforts, promoting sustainable practices and green standards in rebuilding Ukraine's infrastructure.

To maximize the reach and impact of the initiative, the trained experts will actively disseminate their knowledge across municipalities, institutions, and the private sector. This approach will raise awareness and promote the adoption of sustainable practices nationwide, ensuring that Ukraine's reconstruction aligns with global sustainability goals. In parallel, partnerships with municipal associations and other key national actors are being established to achieve capillary reach at the national level, ensuring that the NGF's principles are integrated across all levels of Ukraine's reconstruction efforts.

Building greener will prove more cost-effective in the long term. The implementation of the NGF will equip people with the knowledge to make conscious, informed decisions that prioritize sustainability. By providing stakeholders with the right tools and information, UNIDO is helping to lay the foundation for a more resilient, efficient, and environmentally responsible Ukraine
