UNIDO Trade Facilitation Workshop to improve flow of goods across borders
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) organized a two-day workshop to introduce its Trade Facilitation Toolkit, which was developed with funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, and which aims at identifying gaps in the National Quality Infrastructure (NQIS) that impede the implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA). In particular, the tool will identify gaps that governments and industry should address to comply with TFA articles 4, 5, 8 and 10.3. In addition to the workshop, two national experts were trained on the tool’s implementation.
Malawi, with its operational and active National Trade Facilitation Committee (NTFC), is among the first pilot countries that will have the opportunity to validate the tool before its global release. Moreover, the tool will support the National Trade Facilitation Action Plan and the implementation of ongoing UNIDO projects.
