An aspiring multi-stakeholder partnership, called the Fourth Industrial Revolution Alliance (4IR Alliance), was launched successfully by UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Network (UNIDO ITP Network) at the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Smart Mobility Forum, co-organized by the China International Import Expo (CIIE) Bureau on 6 November 2020 in Shanghai, China, during the 3rd CIIE.
Under the theme of “Smart Mobility: Lead from the Future”, more than 150 representatives from international organizations, governments, businesses and academia shared insights on smart mobility with smart manufacturing, smart energy, smart cities and new infrastructure. In the Forum, UNIDO Director General Li Yong delivered keynote speech virtually, underlining that “(the 4IR Alliance) will bring together more than 30 UNIDO partners to tap into the opportunities that 4IR brings to the world to drive progress towards the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”.
The 4IR Alliance comprises four categories: policy, industry, business and knowledge partners. With the aim of promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID), it will take collective action as a means, and use offline and online industrial investment platforms as media to achieve the goal of narrowing the technological deficit among developing countries/regions and vulnerable group. It also aims to assist countries at different levels of industrial development in transforming their traditional industries, accelerating the industrialization process, and eliminating extreme poverty. The partners include, but are not limited to, China Investment Promotion Agency of Ministry of Commerce, China, Jinan Municipal Government, Xiamen Municipal Government, SAP (China) Co., Ltd., China Bohai Bank Co., Ltd., BOE Intelligence Technology Co.Ltd. and Rockwell Automation (China) Co. Ltd., and the Alliance will continuously expand through the global network of ITP.
