UNIDO joints efforts with UAE partners for the development of a pioneer International Centre for Industry Readiness

In the framework of the World Government Summit, which took place on 13-14 February 2023 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), UNIDO Director General Gerd Müller signed a Joint Declaration with the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, and the Global Mice Organization Limited, for the joint development of the UNIDO International Centre for Industry Readiness.

In this post pandemic context, the Centre is meant to respond to the most actual challenges that health industry faces worldwide, including supply chains disruption for health products, lack of local or regional production of vital health products, and the difficulties of manufacturer to adapt to healthcare industry needs and to innovate and embrace new technologies.

The Centre is meant to be a pioneer industry readiness Centre based in the UAE, with a primarily focus on the MENA region. The model and operations could further be expanded towards Africa and other continents. It will be developed following a three-phase approach, with the designing phase planned to be implemented starting from March 2023. A piloting phase and scaling-up phase are expected from 2024.

Through this Centre UNIDO wants to deliver its mandate of inclusive and sustainable industrial development by providing health industry with the necessary skills, capacity and network to be responsive towards global crisis, thus contributing to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda.
