UNIDO, Japan to strengthen food security in Gabon

The new UNIDO project in Gabon funded by the Government of Japan has the objective to strengthen food security and quality to improve livelihoods. Direct technical assistance will be provided to women small-scale food producers and inspection and market surveillance institutions. It will as well promote awareness to consumers on the importance of quality. The project contributes to the achievement of the National Strategic Plan “Gabon Emergent” and the “Ten year plan for empowerment of women in Gabon” (2015-205). This is one of nine new projects implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) around the world with Japanese funding totalling US$5.8 million.

Building the awareness of consumers on the importance of food quality will allow them to make informed decisions and choose better and healthier nutritional intake. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will receive support to ensure that their products meet the expectations of consumers

The project will be implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and of Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Small- and Medium-Sized Industries, the Ministry of Industry and of National Entrepreneurship, and the Gabonese Standardization Agency (AGANOR).
