UNIDO inaugurated the Denden Design Hub in Tunisia
On 27 January 2023, UNIDO inaugurated the Denden Design Hub in Tunisia. Aimed at boosting the culture of craftsmanship and design, the Design Hub is the result of a fruitful partnership between the National Handicraft Office and UNIDO’s Creative Tunisia project. A place of interaction, training and support, which will benefit the actors of the cultural and creative industries, including artisans, designers, young entrepreneurs and students.
The ceremony was attended by the Ministers of Tourism, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professional Training and Employment and Economy and Planning, the Ambassadors of the European Union and Italy, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Tunisia, and Director of the Division of Agribusiness and Infrastructure Development at UNIDO.
Creative Tunisia sets up a network of multi-purpose service centres throughout the country. The Denden Design Hub is the fourth centre to open its doors through a public-private partnership. Creative Tunisia is one of the components of the European programme “Tounes Wijhetouna”.
From prototyping to marketing, including technical training and specific support services, a range of activities is offered to hub members. Also, the hub will be enriched by incubation programmes and numerous partnerships with art and design schools, host regular events such as conferences, seminars and workshops to stimulate the exchange of ideas and collaboration between members of the creative community.
With the generous support from the European Union and AICS, Creative Tunisia contributes to the overall programme in developing the craft sector into a higher value-added industry and to improve the competitiveness of craft and design value chains, focusing mainly on beneficiaries in rural areas, SMEs and women. Enhanced skills, technologies, and an innovative approach will further increase the dynamics in the creative industries and lead to new marketing opportunities, both locally and internationally.
