UNIDO hosts high level delegation from Senegal during the 46th session of the Industrial Development Board
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) received a high level delegation from Senegal to review progress made through the Programme for Country Partnership (PCP) and to discuss opportunities for future cooperation within the context of the phase II (2019-2023) of the Emerging Senegal Plan. The visit was organized on the sidelines of the 46th session of UNIDO’s Industrial Development Board that took place from 26-28 November 2018 in Vienna.
It was emphasized during discussions that important milestones have already been achieved within the PCP in the development of flagship industrial projects and reforms. One of the main tangible outcomes is the establishment of the Diamniadio Industrial Park, inaugurated by President Macky Sall on the 22nd of November 2018. To achieve this result, UNIDO significantly supported Senegal, including by conducting the reform of the legal and regulatory framework governing Special Economic Zones in Senegal.
During an advanced session of the Seventh ISID Forum “Insights from PCP countries”, Adama Baye Racine Ndiaye, Secretary General at the Ministry of Industry and Small and Medium Industry, shared Senegal’s experience and emphasized that "the PCP, launched in 2015, is a strategic tool to operationalize the Emerging Senegal Plan towards modernization and sustainability of the Senegalese industry. The inauguration of Diamniadio Park is a concrete and successful outcome of joint efforts by the Government of Senegal and UNIDO".
