UNIDO enables first ever export of Indonesian pangasius

Indonesian pangasius producers have historically been unable to compete in the world market due to such barriers as low quality, lack of standards compliance, limited processing and value addition, and high price. Monday 27 May marked a new chapter for the industry with the launch of the first ever export of pangasius. Adib Global Food - one of the partners of the SECO-funded SMART-Fish programme successfully shipped almost 200 tons of frozen pangasius fillet, valued at USD472,000, to Saudi Arabia. This first export is a significant first step for the industry, and the government is hoping this will be the vehicle to drive additional exports from Indonesia in the near future.

The SMART-Fish Programme is implemented by UNIDO and the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, with the financial support of Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
