UNIDO celebrates partnership in support of Indian automotive component manufacturers

29 Jan 2019 – During the Fourth ACMA Technology Summit and EXPO 2019, UNIDO and ACMA, the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India, have expanded their longstanding partnership through an official exchange of letters.

The Department of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises (DHI), Government of India (GoI), supports the second phase of the UNIDO-ACMA-DHI Partnership Programme with US$3.9m. ACMA will continue to function as cooperating agency. The Partnership Programme, which was launched by UNIDO and the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, GoI in 1999, finds its origin in the recognition of the Indian automotive component industry’s need to be globally competitive and to embrace globally accepted best practices along the entire automotive value chain. After the successful completion of the predecessor Phase I (2014–2018), during which 152 small and medium-sized manufacturers in the automotive component industry from different cluster locations across India participated in the Programme’s dedicated upskilling training, Phase II aims to improve productivity and innovation through the application of world class techniques in selected manufacturing operations and the industry’s business support and innovation ecosystem.

While core modules of the training methodology will be rolled out to a larger number of enterprises, new modules targeting resource efficiency and waste management, and trainings designed to raise awareness on the future of manufacturing in the context of Industry 4.0 will be piloted in selected manufacturers. It is foreseen to expand the number of SMEs directly benefitting from the services offered to 275 over the next three years.
