UNIDO and EU promote good governance of quality infrastructure in Armenia

UNIDO organized an awareness workshop for over thirty policy makers and senior officials from the line ministries and institutions on good governance of quality infrastructure (QI).

During the workshop, participants learnt about the concept of National Quality Policy and how it could serve as an effective instrument to guide good governance of the quality infrastructure system in Armenia. Participants were also informed about how a coherent national strategy could help steer the development of a demand-oriented and resilient quality infrastructure system.

The Government is pleased to see such essential support provided by EU through UNIDO to strengthen QI system in Armenia”, said Zhanna R. Zakaryan, Head of Department of Quality Infrastructure Development of the Ministry of Economy of Armenia. “There is a need to upgrade the system, make reforms in the sectors and develop new QI strategy which will help to ensure alignment and coordination of the initiatives among all relevant institutions and bodies”, Zakaryan further added.

“A system of measurement, standards, testing and conformity assessment support quality is needed in the country and provides the gateway to accessing completive and lucrative international markets in support of exports and allows for improved value and growth of domestic products and services”, stressed Frank Hess, Head of Cooperation Section, EU Delegation to Armenia.

Anahit Simonyan, UNIDO Country Representative in Armenia, stated that “it is the perfect moment to have our partnership with the EU and the Government of Armenia to support QI development for sustainable development in the country”.

This awareness workshop was held as part of the UNIDO project “Support to Quality Infrastructure in Armenia”, which is funded by the European Union (EU), aiming to develop the national metrology capacity provide sustainable and internationally recognized services to stakeholders within Armenia.
