Strategic approaches for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Mexico

UNIDO and GMIS Connect Mexico conducted a series of panel discussions on Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) during the Industrial Transformation Mexico (ITM) 2019 event, which was organized as part of Hannover Messe edition in León, Mexico, from 9 to 11 October 2019. The panel discussions assessed the increasing adoption of the 4IR technologies; discussed new circular economy approaches and explored the role of quality infrastructure in fostering market access for Mexico and LAC countries. ITM 2019 also served as a framework for the Annual Industrialists Meeting (RAI) organized by the CONCAMIN (Mexican Industrial Chamber Confederation).

As the only UN agency present at this important event, UNIDO’s booth attracted visitors in large number who showed interest about the approaches and tools that UNIDO employs to support the institutions and SMEs to address the needs of rapidly changing production and consumption patterns. The booth also presented the implications and opportunities of 4IR to accelerate the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. This first ITM overpassed in more than 63% the business sales expectations, as well as participation of more than 10,000 delegates and visitors.

During the ITM, new lines of cooperation of UNIDO with the industrial chambers were also identified, in particular, to assist different sectors for strengthening their preparedness for adopting the fourth industrial revolution.
