Safer trade for Albanian products: Enhancing laboratory capabilities

Tirana, Albania, June 20, 2024The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is strengthening laboratory competencies of the National Institute for Food Safety in Albania (ISUV), aiming to reinforcing their pivotal role in upholding quality standards in Albania. Improved laboratory practices lead to more reliable testing and calibration, directly impacting public health by ensuring that food products are safe for consumption. High-quality laboratory services boost the confidence of international markets in Albanian products, thus enhancing the country’s export potential and contributing to economic growth.

For this purpose, UNIDO conducted a two-day training on ISO 17025:2017 requirements during 19-20 June, 2024, for 64 technical personnel of ISUV. Knowledge refreshing on ISO 17025:2017 is crucial for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories for ensuring the validity and reliability of analytical results. By adhering to ISO/IEC 17025:2017, ISUV laboratories not only strengthen their accreditation status but also solidify their position as a leading reference institution in Albania’s food safety landscape.

The training was organized by UNIDO as part of the Global Quality and Standards Program (GQSP) Albania, a far-reaching initiative supporting 13 countries worldwide, including Albania. Funded by Switzerland through the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the GQSP program focuses on the importance of enhancing local production capabilities and elevating standards for the benefit of people, their prosperity and environmental protection.
