Revitalizing Ukraine’s Berries & Nuts: UNIDO’s Roadmap to Global Markets

A new UNIDO study is catalyzing the revitalization of Ukraine’s berries and nuts sector by providing a strategic roadmap to unlock export potential and drive economic recovery. Developed under the Global Quality and Standards Programme (GQSP) Ukraine, funded by Switzerland’s SECO, the study pinpoints actionable opportunities for growth-empowering Ukrainian SMEs and sectoral associations to meet international standards, particularly those required for access to the European Union market.

By addressing key challenges such as limited access to certification, fragmented producer networks, and gaps in compliance knowledge, the study paves the way for targeted interventions: capacity-building for testing laboratories, training on standards, and improved coordination among stakeholders. These efforts are set to strengthen Ukraine’s Quality Infrastructure (QI), enhance competitiveness, and foster a quality culture within the sector-crucial steps for sustainable growth, job creation, and increased exports.

Despite the ongoing conflict, the sector has shown resilience, with notable potential to increase berry and nut exports. The UNIDO initiative is thus positioned as a transformative force, equipping Ukraine’s producers to tap into high-value global markets and contribute meaningfully to the country’s economic recovery and integration with the EU.
