Remote Assessment is here to stay!

On 24 June 2021, UNIDO convened 35 national and international experts from Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America at an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) to discuss implications, opportunities and challenges of remote assessment techniques. The global outbreak of COVID-19 impacted all aspects of live, driving digitalization to a point-of-no-return. While remote assessment techniques existed before the global pandemic, they are now here to stay. The findings of the EGM will serve as a basis for the development of a guide on Remote Assessment – Best Practices & Guiding Principles.

The virtual EGM looked into best practices in remote assessment, partly as a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic, but looking at things from a wider, longer-term perspective. Based on real-life examples, challenges encountered and identified opportunities, the experts highlighted best practices and elaborated on the future potential of new techniques.

Multiple perspectives and technical areas were covered, such as remote assessment for accreditation, management system certification, product and personnel certification, validation and verification, certification of voluntary sustainability standards, organic certification, peer evaluation and many more.
