NQIP held Nigerian first GLOBALG.A.P Farm Assurers Training for Setting up GLOBALG.A.P Certification Bodies
The National Quality Infrastructure Project for Nigeria (NQIP) with overall objective to support the enhancement of the national quality infrastructure in Nigeria, held Nigerian first GLOBALG.A.P Farm Assurers Training in Abeokuta, from 25 to 27 September 2018.
Global Good Agricultural Practices - GLOBALG.A.P is the world's leading voluntary farm assurance program. In March 2018, a consultative meeting with agribusiness stakeholders was facilitated by UNIDO-NQIP as a first step to the establishment of the working group and 3-day training sessions were organised in Lagos and Abuja. Subsequently in May 2018, Nigeria’s first GLOBALG.A.P National Technical Working Group was established. The main objective of the training was to develop local Auditors, Implementers, Inspectors and Scheme Managers for setting up GLOBALG.A.P certification bodies in the country.
GLOBALG.A.P Farm Assurers Training aimed at improving the capacity and availability of knowledge capital of local approved consultants, implementers, auditors and trainers. The three-day training schedule was facilitated by an international recognised GLOBALG.A.P expert. The workshop, which was focused on Crops, included presentations and case studies on GLOBALG.A.P General Regulations, Control Points and Compliance Criteria. After an onsite visit to a case study farm, participants also took a written examination. Participants were from private and public sector including Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON).
