Launching event for UNIDO “Smart Quality Infrastructure: Shaping a sustainable future”

On 8 December 2022, UNIDO hosted a webinar on “Smart Quality Infrastructure: Shaping a sustainable future” to explore the impact of digital transformation on quality infrastructure (QI). The webinar also elaborated on the evolution of QI in view of anticipating and meeting future needs, including how “Smart QI” specifically can contribute to shaping a sustainable future.

Experts from ISO, IAF, TIC Council and UNIDO shared their perspectives, experiences and ideas on the challenges that QI is encountering on the way to becoming ‘Smart QI’. These challenges include the need for adequate capacity building and training activities for QI professionals to adapt their skills to meet the demands of this new digital era. Some of the risks of the digital transformation in QI addressed by the experts relate to the complexity of processes, data protection, and the need for uniform standards to be globally practiced.

Looking to the future, panelists were in agreement that a collaborative effort is required to ensure that the digital transformation of QI serves a bigger cause, thereby contributing to the sustainability paradigm.

The event also launched the new publication on the topic, Smart Quality Infrastructure: Shaping a sustainable future”, a document developed by UNIDO and co-funded by Switzerland through the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) under the Global Quality and Standards Programme (GQSP).
