Launch of the Tunisian Strategy for typical food products

The National Strategy for the Valorization and Promotion of Typical Food Products was officially presented on 25 May 2022 in Tunis at an event that gathered hundred participants and which was inaugurated by the Minister of Agriculture and the Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation.

The Strategy, developed under UNIDO project for Market Access of Typical Agrofood Products (PAMPAT 2) funded by SECO,  aims at promoting regional development around local food products and at positioning Tunisia as a gourmet tourist destination. It seeks to exploit the untapped growth potential linked to origin-based food products and contribute to the creation of secondary economic activities such as agrotourism, cultural festivals, gastronomic routes and the development of new processed agro-food and cosmetic products.

To ensure the success and the sustainability of the objectives and actions laid out in the National Strategy, the UNIDO project will be supporting the implementation of the Plan in two Tunisian pilot governorates, Nabeul and Kairouan. Different work areas including production, valorization and sales of local products, territorial marketing, gastronomic tourism and sectoral governances will be covered in each region. Public-private partnerships will be encouraged to show the concrete potential of typical agro-food products on the ground.
