Preparations are advanced ahead of the convening of the Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit (GMIS) 2021, to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 22-27 November. This year’s Summit will focus on the theme of “Rewiring Societies: Reshaping Digitalization for Prosperity”, to be held in parallel to Dubai Expo 2020.
Once again, the Co-Chairs UNIDO and the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology of the United Arab Emirates will convene the GMIS Digital Series, in order to gain regionally-specific insights and knowledge ahead of the 2021 Summit. The series will consist of three high-level webinars, focusing on the challenges of digitalization in Latin America, Africa and Asia-Pacific respectively.
The series will begin with the high-level webinar “Harnessing Policymaking to Bolster Innovation and Digital Transformation of Latin American MSMES”, moderated by UNIDO Managing Director, Bernardo Calzadilla Sarmiento, to be broadcast at 15:00 (CEST) on Tuesday, 21 September 2021.
The session features some very high level policymakers, private sector leaders and academics, including keynote addresses from Her Excellency Victoria Hernandez Mora, Minister of Economy, Costa Rica; Leonardo Chacón Rodriguez, Vice-Minister of Economy, Industry and Commerce, Costa Rica; Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary, United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean; and UNIDO Director General, LI Yong.
There are also panel interventions from His Excellency Victor Bisono Haza, Minister of Industry, Trade and SMEs, Dominican Republic; Ruben Geneyro, President, INTI Argentina; and Gabriela Dutrenit, President, Latin American Network for Economics of Learning, Innovation and Competence Building Systems.
