ITPO Italy showcases innovative solutions for urban environments at ESOF2020
As part of the “Innovation Bridge Trieste – Dubai 2020” project, funded by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) Italy organized a conference session during the 2020 EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF2020). Bringing together over 4,500 participants, among them leading scientists, researchers, innovators, policy makers and technology providers from more than 90 countries, this year’s ESOF was held in a hybrid format both in Trieste and online.
ITPO Italy’s conference session Sensing and Shaping Smart Cities in the Post-COVID Era was held on 3 September 2020 with the goal of promoting innovative solutions to reinterpret and redesign urban environments in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
During the session, Raymond Tavares, Industrial Development Officer at the UNIDO’s Innovation and Digitalization Division, illustrated successful patterns for sustainable green manufacturing and smart ecosystems in developing countries. All panelists emphasized the crucial need for urban stakeholders to embrace and adopt bottom-up, forward-looking approaches towards sustainable urban development – reallocating traditional spaces and upgrading existing infrastructures through digital, state-of-the-art technologies offered by the Fourth Industrial Revolution – in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The conference furthermore offered a platform for the winners of the UNIDO Global Call for Innovative Ideas and Technologies vs. COVID-19 and beyond – an Investment and Technology Promotion (ITP) Network-wide initiative, first conceived by ITPO Italy – to showcase their innovative proposals at ITPO Italy’s virtual exhibition booth.
