Improved export capacity and consumer protection in Malawi through quality and standards

The final Steering Committee Meeting of the EU-funded “Development of a Robust Standardization, Quality Assurance, Accreditation and Metrology Infrastructure (SQAM)” Project in Malawi, implemented by UNIDO and the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS), in collaboration with UNDP and the MoITT took place on 5 December 2018.

On this occasion the project’s counterparts and donors highlighted the project’s achievements, took stock of the lesson learned and celebrated the successful implementation.

The SQAM project has greatly contributed to an efficient and adequate national quality infrastructure with direct benefits for Malawian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and indirect long term benefits for Malawian citizens in terms of improved protection of consumer rights.
