GMIS Virtual Edition 2020 to Address Glocalization and Digital Restoration

The GMIS Virtual Summit 2020 will take place from 4-5 September and will elaborate upon “Glocalization: towards inclusive and sustainable value chains”, with a special focus on digital restoration following COVID-19. The third edition of the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit (GMIS) was originally scheduled to take place at Hannover Messe, Germany in April but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the continued travel restrictions and social distancing requirements in many countries, UNIDO and its co-chair of the initiative, the Ministry of Energy and Industry of the United Arab Emirates have decided to conduct the Summit virtually, allowing people worldwide to take part in the discussions on the future of manufacturing from the safety and comfort of their own homes or workplaces.

A series of high-level webinars, the GMIS Digital Series, will be streamed online from 30 June 2020 in advance of the Virtual Summit. The opening webinar will reflect upon “Glocalization: localizing production and capacity building for survival and success” and will feature Cecilia Ugaz Estrada, Chief Advisor, UNIDO’s Directorate of Corporate Management and Operations. Additional sessions will also feature items on Society 5.0 featuring Managing Director of the Directorate of Digitalization, Technology and Innovation, Bernardo Calzadilla-Sarmiento, and Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) Japan.

The GMIS Digital Series will be streamed weekly until 25 August 2020. Detailed agenda of the GMIS Digital Series is available here.
