Following a successful third edition of the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit (GMIS), held virtually last September under the theme of “Glocalization: towards inclusive and sustainable value chains”, attention now turns to GMIS 2021. This year’s Summit will take place in parallel to Dubai EXPO 2020 (previously postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic) under the theme of “Rewiring Societies: Repurposing Digitalization for Prosperity” from 22-27 November in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
GMIS 2021 is a joint initiative of UNIDO and the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology of the United Arab Emirates, which will once again bring together leaders in government, policymaking, the private sector, academia and civil society from across the globe to cooperate towards an inclusive and sustainable future of manufacturing.
The programme will include familiar elements such as keynote addresses, panel discussions, fireside chats, and interviews with some of the industry’s most prominent leaders, followed by working groups, interactive workshops, youth sessions, and activities related to the GMIS legacy initiatives, such as the Mohammed bin Rashid (MBR) Initiative for Global Prosperity and Green Chain initiative on decarbonization.
Announcing GMIS 2021, UNIDO Director LI Yong said, “GMIS plays a significant role in creating the robust partnerships, networks and cooperation initiatives needed in the digital era, as we accelerate sustainable solutions and transform the world to address its biggest challenge towards the 2030 Agenda, including SDG 9.” stressed Mr LI. “To achieve this digital transformation, we must work closely with partners in private industry, governments and academia. GMIS 2021 will be a catalyst for transformative ideas and actions,” he concluded.
