GMIS 2021 to tackle Digitalization for Prosperity
The fourth Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit (GMIS 2021) kicks off in parallel to Dubai Expo 2020, under the theme “Rewiring Societies: Repurposing Digitalization for Prosperity”. UNIDO serves as the Co-Chair of GMIS, in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology of the United Arab Emirates.
GMIS 2021 will feature highly distinguished participants from the worlds of policymaking, the private sector and academia. These include Alexander Van Der Bellen, President of Austria; Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, President, Mauritania; Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, Prime Minister of Namibia; Cham Prasidh, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation representing Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia; Abdulla Shahid, President of the United Nations General Assembly; LI Yong, Director General, UNIDO; Amani Abou Zeid, Commissioner of Infrastructure and Energy of the African Union; Matteo Renzi, former Prime Minister of Italy.
22-23 November will see the plenary session address a wide range of topics pertaining to digitalization, including fair trade; Society 5.0; energy as a service; the greening of industry; digital transformation; the future of industrialization in the post-pandemic world and many more.
On 24 November, attention turns to the GMIS Working Groups addressing the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) themes such as industrial safety, gender equality and inclusive and sustainable industrial performance.
The Green Chain conference will also take place on 24 November. This initiative seeks to harness advanced technologies to stimulate added competitiveness, investments and sustainability to global value chains. A number of additional legacy initiatives will also be announced during the Summit.
