The fourth issue of the United Nations Pakistan magazine
The fourth issue of the United Nations Pakistan magazine for 2018 focuses on UNIDO’s 50th anniversary in Pakistan and its important work on assisting Pakistan in achieving SDGs and in the UNRC’s words, helping improve people’s lives.
A good example under the section “Advancing Industrial Competitiveness and Global Trade” is UNIDO’s support to four industrial clusters of automotive components, leather footwear, readymade garment and surgical equipment through a self-financed Cluster Development Initiative (CDI) implemented in partnership with the Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC). The CDI project is part of the Worldbank Jobs and Competiveness loan programme with the Government of Punjab. Grounded in UNIDO’s cluster development methodology, the demand driven approach of the CDI to overcome the dominant challenges impeding growth of industrial clusters and the provision of the best expertise for capacity and competence-building of the partner organizations is highly commended by the stakeholders from both public and private sectors.
Human stories from the EU-Funded Trade Related Technical Assistance Programme for advancing competitiveness, and global trade by UNIDO in fisheries, agriculture and manufacturing sectors showcase the success of the programme. The life changing impact of the programme in terms of improved income for farmers by opening up their access to global value chains and worker’s health and safety through the introduction of corporate social responsibility measures is showcased under the “video corner” segment of this magazine.
