Ensuring Industrial Safety and Security in Times of COVID-19 and Beyond

On 8 May 2020, a webinar on “Ensuring Industrial Safety and Security during the times of COVID-19 and beyond” was organized by UNIDO with the support of Rostechnadzor, the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service of the Russian Federation.

The webinar highlighted the importance of industrial safety and security and the role of technology during the times of the COVID-19 crisis and beyond. Leading experts from Lloyd’s Register Foundation, Deloitte Consulting and AcuiZen Technologies discussed the impact of the crisis on occupational health and safety, the impact on supply chain disruptions due to the lockdowns and travel restrictions, as well as issues with regard to risk management and ensuring safety and security on manufacturing sites. The participants expressed the importance of utilizing existing and emerging technologies in production processes to counter the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 lockdowns.  Finally, the experts discussed the importance of competence, control and capacity to ensure industrial safety and security, and to achieve inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
