Creating value with standards for the wood industry in Ukraine
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is pleased to announce the launch of its publication titled “Creating value with standards: Special focus on the wood processing industry in Ukraine”.
From an export perspective, international standards can bring a multitude of benefits to exporting companies. Standards drive trade by providing a signal of quality to consumers and trade partners, create a common language for potential trading partners, and support international commerce by lowering barriers to trade, reducing production costs and offering opportunities for economies of scale.
The first phase of the Global Quality and Standards Programme (GQSP) Ukraine initiative, funded by the Government of Switzerland through its State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and implemented by UNIDO, has helped realize the export potential of the children’s furniture and wooden windows value chains in Ukraine. This was achieved by strengthening related quality and standards compliance services, benefitting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and by promoting the use of those services among value chain participants to ultimately facilitate market access.
This new publication was developed within the framework of the GQSP Ukraine to promote the range of benefits associated with the use of standards for Ukrainian SMEs, particularly in the furniture sector.
UNIDO looks forward to continuing its work in Ukraine, utilizing the effective GQSP approach to enhance quality and promote standards.
