Closing ceremony of the Project for Market Access of Traditional Food Products (PAMPAT Maroc)

Launched in September 2013, the “Projet d’accès aux marchés des produits agroalimentaires et de terroir” (PAMPAT) presented its results in Rabat, Morocco, on 17th September 2019.

The PAMPAT project (www.pampat.ma), implemented by UNIDO in close cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Agency for Agricultural Development (ADA) with funding from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) of the Swiss Government, aimed at improving the performance, market access and socio-economic conditions of argan oil and the prickly pear value chains in Morocco.

In this framework, UNIDO strengthened the organization and governance of the selected value chains, improved productivity, quality compliance to the protected geographical indication (PGI) code of practices as well as to the newly introduced law on hygiene and safety standards (28/07) of small-scale rural producers and SMEs, and enhanced their position in both domestic and export market, through the setup of export consortia. By adding value along the entire value chain the project significantly contributed to improving livelihoods, creating jobs and promoting sustainable and inclusive local economic development.

Also, the project triggered the organization of the first national contest of terroir products, which has reached its third edition, as well as different south-south cooperation activities, such as regular exchanges with the twin project PAMPAT Tunisia and the promotion of UNIDO approach to Geographical Indications in different West African countries.

During the opening remarks, both the Director General of ADA and the Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Rabat highlighted the excellent cooperation with UNIDO at the field level and the tangible and sustainable results achieved.
