THE ARAB FOOD SAFETY AND ACCREDITATION WEEK 2020 SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTED ONLINE

The Arab Food Safety and Accreditation week was organized online by UNIDO within the framework of the Arab Accreditation Cooperation (ARAC) and the Arab Food Safety Initiative for Trade Facilitation (SAFE) projects during the period 6-10 June 2020. This important event celebrated with great success World Food Safety Day (7th June 2020) under the theme “Food safety, everyone’s business” and World Accreditation Day (9th June 2020) focusing on how accreditation supports food safety.

This year’s event, under the theme “Together towards enhancing the accreditation and food safety infrastructure to protect the consumer in the Arab region”, was attended by an average of 100 participants for each session, including representatives from the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO), the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development  (AOAD), ARAC Accreditation Bodies members, and high-level experts and stakeholders.

The many online interactive activities highlighted the ways to further develop the infrastructure for accreditation and food safety in the Arab region, and the pivotal role they play in protecting the Arab consumers. A number of capacity-building activities were also undertaken to strengthen ARAC and SAFE members’ competencies. In addition, ARAC launched a new brochure on the “Benefits of joining the ARAC Multi-Lateral Recognition Arrangement - ARAC MLA” and its new website on the occasion of World Accreditation Day.
