Applying environmental technologies in Africa

At the world’s leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste and raw materials management (IFAT), which took place from 30 May to 3 June 2022 in Munich, UNIDO’s Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) in Germany brought together Delegates, Advisors and technology providers to discuss and promote the application of environmental technologies in Africa.

The trade fair was attended by more than 2 900 exhibitors and 110 000 visitors, half of which were from abroad. ITPO Germany was present with a dedicated booth in cooperation with selected companies in the water and waste sector. Through the Delegate Programme, ITPO Germany provided an opportunity to eleven experts from local authorities and companies in the water and waste sector from Benin, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia to attend the fair, learn about the latest technologies and exchange with potential partners. Thanks to the programme, the Delegates engaged in more than 100 company meetings and attended relevant panel discussions.

Together with the German Mechanical Plant Engineering Association (VDMA), ITPO Germany organized a networking event with a focus on Africa as an additional opportunity to connect and exchange. To further collaboration among ITPO’s, ITPO Germany supported a visit of  Mariam Yalwaji Katagum, Honorable Minister of the State Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment of Nigeria together with Abimbola Olufore, Head of ITPO Nigeria.

The ITPO Germany team Bonn and Vienna were accompanied by ITPO Germany’s Investment and Technology Promotion Advisors in Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria and Sudan, who are actively following up on the contacts established at the fair in their respective countries to promote partnerships with local businesses and institutions and thus facilitate the transfer of technology.
