Aid for Trade Initiative for Arab States: Highlights on recent UNIDO’s achievements

The first phase of the Aid for Trade Initiative for the Arab States (AfTIAS) programme is now coming to an end. This initiative was a unique form of international partnership, bringing together many international organizations and donors to enable Arab countries to attract financial and technical support at the same time, in order to raise the level of their foreign trade. It also confirmed that all Arab countries need to implement many vital development projects that have a direct impact on intra-trade. In this context, the Arab States, the League of Arab States and the regional and international organizations expressed their aspirations and hope regarding all the parties to continue their generous support of this initiative.

Until more is known, the fourth issue of UNIDO/AfTIAS newsletter outlines progress achieved in the last months through UNIDO’s interventions in the GCC region, Palestine, Sudan, Libya and Iraq. Moreover, Dr. Kamal Elhadi, Secretary General of the Sudanese Accreditation Council (SDAC), answers our questions about the development of the accreditation infrastructure in his country.
