Advancing SDGs through Quality and Standards

VIENNA, 12 July 2019 – UNIDO/TII hosted an event on the cross-cutting contribution of the Quality Infrastructure (QI) system to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The forum highlighted the many ways in which QI improves the health and safety of workers, enables more exports and how standards help manage environmental discharges and energy efficiency. The panel consisted of international experts from numerous ISO/IEC task forces covering the aforementioned topics as well as representatives from Austrian Standards and the World Bank Group. The event attracted an audience of 100, out of which 20% were Permanent Missions.

Furthermore, UNIDO launched its newest publication “Sustainable Development and the Future of Quality Infrastructure”, which emphasizes the fundamental enabling function of an appropriate quality infrastructure for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its support for each SDG. It provides insights and examples of how quality infrastructure supports and underpins the implementation of the SDG and how Quality Infrastructure better positions developing countries to meet the SDGs.
