The side-event aims to bring together participants that represent different facets of the industrial policy process. To this end, the panel will consist of representatives from government, academia and private sector.

Industrial policy plays a key role in achieving inclusive and sustainable industrial development. While we witness the resurgence of industrial policy, the levels of knowledge and capacities required for its successful formulation and implementation in the 21st century have significantly risen. There is an urgent need for the creation of a global industrial policy (IP) forum to facilitate multilateral industrial policy dialogue and knowledge sharing to foster industrial development and achieve SDGs in the world characterized by megatrends such as the impact of the pandemic, greening of industry, restructuring of global production, and digitalization. The side event should provide UNIDO with initial feedback on the idea to establish an IP forum and help the Secretariat to chart the course on how to translate the idea to practice.
