Trade Facilitation - UNECA

ECA is currently supporting several implementing partners to build capacity for trade facilitation in Africa: the African Alliance for Electronic Commerce (AAEC), which promotes the use of electronic single windows (including through the publication of updated guidelines for the implementation of single windows and awareness-related activities to RECs); the Pan-African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PACCI), which is working on popularizing the single window concept and electronic certificates of origin in Africa; the African Corridor Management Alliance (ACMA), which will support improved co-ordination and information sharing among African corridor management agencies; and the Intergovernmental Standing Committee on Shipping (ISCOS), which is rolling out a trade and transit facilitation tool.

In addition, ECA is working to build the capacity of the Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority (NCTCA), which manages a transit and transport corridor within Africa, to move from being a transit corridor to being an economic corridor and to improve the efficiency with which goods can move along the corridor.

ECA will collaborate in the Joint United Nations Regional Commissions Survey on Trade Facilitation and Paperless Trade in 2017. The results of the survey, when published, will provide information to African countries that will support their capacity to implement effective trade facilitation reforms.
