Trade Facilitation - Sweden
Sida is contributing to regional implementation in Africa of Phase II of WCO’s “Columbus Programme,” which is designed to assist the member countries of the EAC, SADC, and ECOWAS regions. This programme is a customs capacity building programme to promote customs modernization and implementation of their World Customs Organization standards to secure and facilitate world trade. The overall objectives of the regional implementation in Africa of Phase II of the Columbus Programme are the development of a sustainable and improved economy in Africa with regard to trade, security, and social protection through development of Customs authorities as fair and effective trade management partners as well as modern social protection and revenue collection services.

The Government of Sweden has provided funds to Trade Policy Training Centre in Africa (TRAPCA) to establish a Trade Facilitation Facility that will deliver training to participants from Africa on the implementation of the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA). The main objective of the funding from Sweden is to assist the Least Developed Countries in the trade facilitation capacity building to effectively participate and benefit from international trade
