Cotton Made in Africa

This is a BMZ-funded initiative, implemented through a consortium of partners. The programme focuses on Benin, Burkina Faso, and Zambia. Its objective is to provide cotton farmers with agricultural training focused on environmentally friendly and sustainable production methods to increase yields, quality and productivity, and profitability.

Sustainable Economic Development and Employment Promotion in Afghanistan

The BMZ has been assisting the Afghan Government since 2002. The goal of this GIZ project is to create jobs and increase income in Afghanistan. Relying on a holistic value chain approach in the priority sectors nuts, wheat, poultry, dairy, and horticulture different actors on the micro, meso and macro level are supported to enhance opportunities for employment and income. The project is supporting private sector institutions in identifying business opportunities and establishing linkages outside the country. To supplement value chain upgrading measures structurally, the improvement of the business-enabling environment is addressed through assisting the partner ministry facilitating Public Private Dialogue mechanisms, as well as, supporting communities with small-scale infrastructural measures, including irrigation and storage.

Professionalization of cocoa producers and their organizations in sustainable cocoa production (PRO-PLANTEURS)

The GIZ project is jointly financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and the private sector. The objective is to improve the living conditions of farming families in Côte d’Ivoire. To achieve this, 50 cooperatives or farmers’ organisations and their members who are in the process of forming a cooperative undergo capacity building Training courses in business administration, diversification and nutritional advice, plant protection, biodiversity and agroforestry systems will enable the members of the cooperatives to improve both the productivity of their farms and the fertility of the soil. The long-term aim is to build efficient companies that can be competitive on international markets.
