Physical trade infrastructure - Netherlands

TradeMark East Africa is a multi-donor initiative aimed at increasing trade and regional integration within the East African Community. It is a combination of physical infrastructure, systems integration and optimization, and institutional support. The prioritization of intervention is based on analysis of the binding constraints to trade, political economy and stakeholder interests. Examples of projects are cross-border harmonization of custom procedures, One Stop Border Posts and streamlining of cargo handling in the ports of Mombasa and Dar es Salaam.

DRIVE finances development-related infrastructure projects. DRIVE provides governments through grants, guarantees and loans to businesses an attractive and flexible source of funding for infrastructure projects that cannot be financed and/or operated on a commercial basis. For the contracting authority, this means a reduction in the cost of transactions within the objectives of DRIVE.

DRIVE focuses on private sector development through improving the business environment. It contributes to inclusive growth by engaging local entrepreneurship and it increases employment and productivity allowing people to meet their own living needs.

The focus is on public infrastructure in one or more of the following sectors:

• Food security

• Water;

• Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR);

• Climate

Fund for the financing of private investments in commercially feasible infrastructure in developing countries.
