Better Life for Girls Initiative (2016-2020)

As part of the Korean Government’s efforts to help other developing countries implement the SDGs, Korea’s Better Life for Girls Initiative during 2016-2020 pays targeted attention to girls’ education, health, and profession. Under the Better Life for Girls Initiative, the Korean Government pledged 200 million US dollars over 2016-2020 to put girls on the path of sustainable empowerment. This initiative aims to tackle gender inequality in learning and help girls in developing countries unlock their full potential.  In the same vein as the Initiative, Korea’s assistance to Afghanistan also includes programs such as vocational skills training with a focus on gender perspective, education for Afghan refugee girls to increase their literacy and productive life skills, etc. Furthermore, Korea believes that providing education and vocational training for children and women in vulnerable situations will help sustainably to solve humanitarian crisis. In this regard, Korea provided a financial contribution to support technical and vocational education for Syrian and Jordanian youth in Jordan in 2016 and will continue and enlarge its effort to empower children and women in vulnerable situations by providing more opportunities for self-reliance and economic independence through education and vocational training programs.
