The European Centre for Development Policy Management

Established in 1986, ECDPM is an independent foundation, based in Maastricht and Brussels, which promotes effective partnerships between the European Union and the Global South, particularly Africa. ECDPM produces reports and discussion papers; and facilitates policy dialogues reinforcing the capacity of developing countries and helping governments in Europe to make their development policies and instruments more effective. Irish Aid has worked in partnership with ECDPM since 2006.   Economic and Agricultural Transformation is ECDPM’s largest programme.

TRADE POLICY DEVELOPMENT

The World Trade Organization (WTO) French Irish Mission Internship Programme

Ireland has supported this programme since 2001. The programme provides internships for Least Developed Countries and small and vulnerable economies. The internship lasts on average for a period of ten months and candidates work in their own country Mission in Geneva and can represent their country in the various bodies within the WTO while undergoing the training programme.

The Advisory Centre for WTO Law

Ireland is a founding member of the Geneva based Advisory Centre on World Trade Organization Law, which was established in 2001 to provide legal advice on WTO law, support in WTO dispute settlement proceedings and training on WTO law to its developing country members and Least-Developed Countries.

Facility for Investment Climate Advisory Services (FIAS), World Bank Group

FIAS is a service of the World Bank Group (International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and the World Bank (IBRD)) which advises developing countries on how to improve their business environments to increase private sector activity and encourage inward and domestic investment. FIAS focuses on regulatory simplification (business registration, licensing, taxation, customs and land) as well as investment law, policy and promotion.

International Finance Corporation (IFC) Conflict-Affected States in Africa (CASA) Initiative

The CASA Initiative helps countries recover from conflict by focusing on improving the business environment through regulatory reform; strengthening small and medium sized businesses and support institutions, such as chambers of commerce; rebuilding financial markets, banks, and other financial institutions; and increasing private sector involvement in providing and rebuilding infrastructure such as roads, ports, schools, and power stations.
