Global Advocacy - Australia

Information dated: 2017

Throughout the aid for trade investments, Australia advocates and encourages growth as a means to reduce poverty and build prosperity in developing countries; constructive engagement by developing countries in regional and global economic architecture; and a shared interest in security and regional stability. In the WTO, Australia is responsive to partners’ calls for development assistance. For example, Australia has contributed generously to programs that assist developing countries to implement the WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation. As part of the UN led processes on Sustainable Development and Financing for Development, Australia advocates for improved economic and trade targets, including adopting a specific reference to aid for trade, as well as trade targets to improve the global share of trade by least developed countries.
