Access to information is a key element in IMO's mission to promote compliance and implementation of its regulatory texts. The IMO Publishing Service provides the world maritime community with user‑friendly consolidated texts of IMO's conventions, codes, regulations, recommendations and guidelines. The catalogue contains over 200 titles in English, many of which are translated into Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish.

Alongside the hard copies, IMO Publishing’s digital portfolio consists of a variety of formats such as e reader files, e-books, downloads and web-based subscriptions, giving end users the ability to choose the platform that suits their needs best. Key products include e-reader files that are an exact copy of the book. They are recommended for shipboard use or other situations when internet access is not readily available. Subscriptions, on the other hand, are web-based and best suited for office- or shore-based use. Subscription products are offered for core titles and include SOLAS, MARPOL, the IMDG Code and the IMO-Vega Database (developed in conjunction with DNV GL). The ease of accessing the digital products means that users have immediate access to IMO’s regulations, saving on shipping time and cost.

IMO makes its products available through an e-commerce shop. The Publishing Service regularly reviews and adjusts its e commerce and digital strategies to meet users’ requirements and keep in line with the latest developments in the global digital community.
